My Thoughts on Independence Day
I’ve been contemplating our recent holiday, 4th of July Independence Day and the history behind it. Undoubtedly it has been a big holiday for the United States. So, what exactly did we become independent from? Apparently the 13 colonies back in 1776 were not pleased with the new system which required them to pay taxes on imports of paper, paint, lead, glass and tea. Ah yes, the popular Boston Tea Party! From what I can gather our independence was all about freedom from taxation, taxation without representation and freedom from governmental control. As such in 1776 the 13 colonies declared their independence from the British government, which ultimately lead to the establishment of the United States.
In my contemplation I asked myself just how much of that freedom do we still own today while celebrating our independence? When looking at what we are being taxed on today, the more appropriate question is “what are we not being taxed on today?” I wonder just how many people feel properly represented by their government these days? Just recently I was taken aback noticing how many taxes I was paying on a basic commodity such as food. I recall a time when that wasn’t the case. I thought to myself, I don’t remember voting for that. What happened? Obviously somebody had thought it was a good idea. What’s happening to our freedom amidst all the laws, regulations and taxation we keep putting into effect? Consider the possibility that every time we vote for a new law we give up just a little bit more of our freedom. It doesn’t matter who voted for it. It affects us all!
Notice for a moment how laws are being put into effect in an attempt to control someone’s behavior. Be it a leash law for dogs or mandating the purchase of medical insurance. Good, bad or ugly ultimately it forces someone’s behavior. No matter whether we agree with it or not, the irony is that we don’t get more freedom by exerting control, we just get more control. In the end, we all end up with less choices and more restrictions.
I hate to bring up the example of mandated medical insurance which has been such controversial subject amongst many. I recently had a conversation with someone about the issue. They were convinced that some folks who don’t purchase medical insurance go to the emergency room for free and thus drive the cost of health care up for everyone. So, out of fear of rising costs and to control those folk’s behavior that person was for mandating medical insurance. But consider for a moment that acting from fear just creates more of that which we are afraid. And consider for a moment that exerting control on someone else only creates more control for ourselves. It is based on the principle that like energy attracts like energy.
Now consider for a moment the possibility that the solution isn’t in everyone having medical insurance. What if the solution lies in everyone using more alternative health care methods and eating healthier foods without preservatives which ultimately would render us more healthy, not needing medical insurance. However, now because we have exerted control over all those folks who don’t buy medical insurance, we in fact have put up a road block for ourselves in creating naturally something new and different which ultimately would benefit us all in ways our minds can’t conceive of yet. Isn’t it ultimately going to be more costly for us to pay for two systems? The one system we are moving out of, which isn’t working for us any longer but is covered by medical insurance and the new system which is not covered by medical insurance and which we are more and more gravitating toward? So much for keeping down the costs. In my experience control strangles life and the natural flow. …and when we act from fear we just create more of that which we don’t want.
So, where did our precious freedom go? Well, it seems we’ve been giving it away – little by little. I see more and more people unhappy with life and our government. However, being that the British are out of the picture, whom do we declare our independence from today? Our government? Suppose we got rid of our government, what’s to prevent us from creating another just like it? We have done exactly that since the declaration of our independence from Britain in 1776? We have created the government we have today.
Well, I venture to say that if we want different results we must declare our independence from the very energies we used to create with that which we have today; energies such as fear, force and control. When was the last time you, yes you, acted from fear? When was the last time you attempted to force or control someone’s behavior? …punished or threatened your child to get them to do what you wanted? …or voted for a law forcing someone’s behavior you didn’t like?
Oh, I do believe we can change the world. But the only way we’ll change our world is by changing ourselves from within!
Happy Independence!
Relax, it’s not up to us to figure out the “How”
Recently I was reminded of a little truth that gave me big peace of mind. It is not up to us to figure out the “how”. Our spirit and the universe always guides us to help us achieve our soul’s aspirations. It is up to us to listen and follow the guidance. If we are trying to control the “how” we’re missing the boat because the more we try to control, the more we strangle life in the process and cheat ourselves out of the opportunities designed to help us achieve our soul’s desires. I know it is easier said than done. I personally have lost count of the number of times I have done just that – tried to control the “how”, often wondering in frustration why things weren’t working the way I thought they should.
An image comes to mind of my dad swimming in a public pool with my brother who at the time was maybe around 5 years old. My brother not knowing how to swim and somewhat afraid of the water hung tight around my dad’s neck for the ride of his life. As my dad tried to swim and submerged himself more into the water, my brother tightened his grip around my dad’s neck. As my brother held on tighter and tighter it became harder and harder for my dad to swim until eventually my dad, being choked by my brother, started going under. This in turn caused my brother to choke my dad even harder. Luckily for the lifeguard who picked up on the seriousness of the situation and came to the rescue while everyone else thought that my dad and my brother were just playing and providing entertainment for everyone.
Well, ’tis the same with life. How tight is your grip?
I for one have recently published my book “Meeting My Twin Flame”, a personal memoir about my spiritual awakening, a journey my spirit and the universe took me on which I couldn’t have possibly dreamed up in a million years. I do remember setting some goals, however, prior to my journey. I am now realizing how miniscual my goals were in comparison to what I received throughout this profound journey; my soul’s true passion and expression.
By the way my book is now available in a variety of ebook formats on www.smashwords.com at http://www.smashwords.com/b/319420 or in kindle format on www.amazon.com.
How much peace of mind would you have if you knew that your spirit and the universe would figure out the “how to” for you? All you would have to do is listen and follow. And what would you dare to do if you knew that your spirit and the universe had your back all the time?
What did you experience around Dec 21st 2012?
Friday, Dec. 21st, 2012 was supposed to be an interesting day. It was the last day of the Mayan calendar. My understanding was that the planets were supposed to align in a special way. Many of us waited in anticipation of what this shift would bring. I, for one, fell sick the next day and continued to be sick through Christmas. All for my highest good, however. I knew I was personally undergoing a significant spiritual shift based on a choice I had made that Friday evening. What I didn’t know is that we also experienced a very significant increase in vibration. It turns out that quite a few people fell sick right around Christmas. Much like a sudden significant increase in altitude, the vibrational increase seemed to have affected some of us physically. I suspect that as with altitude, over time our bodies will adjust to it. May I suggest, however, that you can ask your spirit if you are so inclined to help you rewire your body for the new vibration. It could be done while you’re sleeping. Your body may have an easier time of it.
It should make for an interesting 2013 in the higher vibration. You might see more unresolved issues rising quicker to the surface for healing and clearing. More of the lower vibration energies might come floating to the surface which means it may seem like there are more negative things happening. No worries. Anything holding those lower vibrational energies of force, control, suppression, separation etc. is just being flushed out by the higher vibration. The good news is you are now more than ever before supported to heal and clear out that old baggage. If you are feeling overwhelmed or lost for what to do, look around you. There is so much help available to you right now. There are so many people who have wisdom in the spiritual realm and can help you heal, clear energies or help you understand through a clairvoyant reading. I, myself, offer 30 min. complimentary first time client consultations to see if we make a good fit in working together. Don’t be shy in getting help. This is the time. It’s happening whether you like it or not. This is your time, our time! Enjoy the ride! Stay in the flow! Happy New Year!
Experiencing more Joy as a Benefit of Spiritual Healing
As I continue to heal myself, I observe myself experiencing more joy. Particularly this year I have noticed the wild life more than ever before in previous years. Not that the animals haven’t been around before, but I seem to be attracting more of them into my life. At the same time I can’t help but feel such joy and delight in watching them partake in my life. Earlier this year I had a bear cub on my porch staring at me through my living room window. A week before I almost ran into what was probably his mama on my walk with my dog. Believe it or not but in my 12 years in Colorado this is the first time I have encountered bears this up close. Then there was the family of 6 or 7 raccoons who woke me a number of times at 2 o’clock in the morning scurrying around my porch. When I finally turned on the porch light to see, I witnessed all seven of them sitting on a wood pile as if on a podium staring at me with their big eyes. My heart skipped for joy and put a smile on my face. The scene was well worth being woken up to at 2 o’clock in the morning. Then there were the two mice who decided to play house with me for a day or two earlier this year walking about my livingroom completely unbothered by my presence. I’ve never experienced mice so freely running around under my feet. Then I couldn’t help but notice the abundance and variety of birds that I’ve come to appreciate and watch daily as they drink and take baths in the small dog dish filled with water on my porch. It amazes me every time how they seem so comfortable with my presence and how they come to drink while I’m standing right next to the bowl. I also mustn’t forget to mention the squirrels who jump from tree to tree, who share in the water bowl and who give my dog a run for her money every time and taunt her from the hight of the trees. All such delight, indeed!
But the most delightful experience I had with a hummingbird recently. I was watering my cucumber patch when suddenly a hummingbird flew into the spray of my hose and hovered for a few seconds. Then he flew to a nearby fence where he rested and shook himself off. Then once again he flew into the wide spray of my hose and hovered yet again for a few seconds under the water. I realized the little bugger was taking a shower. So when he sat down on the nearby fence again and shook himself off I slightly lifted the hose to shower him some more. He didn’t quite like that at first and took off, but then came right back. This time I lifted my hose ever so slightly and sprayed the little hummingbird again. He allowed it this time and started shaking his wings and enjoying the spray of water showering him. I can’t even begin to describe the joy I felt. I don’t recall ever having experienced such delight in an interaction with such tiny critter. It’s only ironic that the hummingbird spiritually represents JOY.
On the other side of the coin I have known people who have had difficulty experiencing any joy at all in the face of even the most elaborate events. So, how is it that some of us are able to experience such great joy while others can’t seem to experience any? And how does this relate to spiritual healing?
It seems that we experience joy more readily when we operate in the higher vibrations. Living in the lower vibrations we seem to experience far less of it. The predominant contribution to us living in the lower vibrational energies are our past unresolved traumas. They seem to weigh us down to the point of lowering us vibrationally. The more unresolved traumas, the heavier our load, the lower we seem to sink until it becomes almost impossible to manage life, much less experience any joy. Just look at the people around you who you know that have experienced multiple losses or accidents in a short period of time or who have lived a life of continuous drama. Drama incidentally is just an expression of our unresolved traumas. Each unresolved trauma equates to carrying a sack of potatoes weighing us down. Additionally, a part of our soul is wrapped up in the unresolved experience, leaving us with less creative energy to manage life. Thus with each added trauma there is literally less of us spiritually in addition to the accumulating weight we must carry.
Spiritual healing allows us to digest the unresolved traumas releasing our creative energy back to us and unburdening us from the extra weight. Often people experience feeling lighter after a healing, not realizing that they are also rising vibrationally. Life just suddenly becomes easier, better and more fun.
Reducing Stress as a Benefit of Spiritual Healing
It is my own personal experience that the more I heal the more at peace I feel. Similar situations that would have stressed me out in the past, do not faze me today.
So, where does stress come from? Stress comes from our own anticipation of pain and discomfort given certain circumstances. But how do we know that we might experience pain and discomfort in certain situations unless we have indeed experienced it? Thus my point; we experience stress as a result of previous traumas. A current situation only serves to remind us of the past pain. Pain is counter survival. Thus our survival mechanism warns us of the possibility of pain by inducing stress in our bodies whenever we find our selves in similar situations where we have experienced pain before – simply to get us to leave the situation.
But doesn’t everyone experience stress in certain situations, you may ask? Well, no. It’s like saying all skiers experience fear of skiing. The truth is that only the ones who have gotten hurt on a ski slope will experience fear of skiing. For that same reason not everyone experiences fear of flying or gets stressed when on an airplane. Only the ones who have crashed before. Mind you the crash could also be a past life experience. It is for this same reason we may experience stress around certain circumstances with love, finances, work, kids and so forth.
So, how do we circumvent this survival mechanism that’s inducing stress with us? Simple. We heal the past trauma. By doing so we neutralize or de-activate the emotions or energy in the trauma. No matter how similar the circumstances, we no longer will have that particular trauma act on us (or re-experience the emotions in it) because it is no longer active even though we still have memory of it.
So, you are feeling stressed? Observe the circumstances around which you get stressed. What might be the past trauma? If you can’t figure it out, allow a spiritual healer to help you heal it. It is wonderful to know that you can! It is even more wonderful to experience peace and calm within yourself!
What are the Benefits of Spiritual Healing?
So, what is Spiritual Healing anyway?
When we experience pain, whether physical, emotional or mental, sometimes it is so intense that we can’t deal with it in the moment and we tend to “shove” it, set it aside. In other words, we don’t fully digest the experience. When this happens it becomes a piece of unfinished business attached to our soul. Our soul wants to learn from our experiences; good, bad or ugly. However, it cannot learn from those experiences which we haven’t digested. It’s kind of like our bodies cannot get the nutrients from an undigested piece of brocoli. The energy in the unhealed experience is live and continues to affect us. By energy is meant all the emotions in the original experience. Similar circumstances can trigger these emotions or key us into the experience so that we emotionally re-live it. More often than not we don’t realize that that’s what’s happening. We think we are simply having a reaction to our current circumstances. Although the current circumstances may have triggered it, we are really re-experiencing the unhealed past. Once we heal the experience, we don’t react to the current. We are able to act rather than re-act because we are much calmer and centered.
Such unhealed past experiences are where most fear, anxiety, stress, depression and recurring pain come from. Your soul will keep creating circumstances and drawing to you just the right people to keep reminding you of what needs healing – simply because your soul wants to learn from your experience. Spiritual healing allows for the past experience to be properly digested and the pain to be transformed to wisdom. Aside from your soul’s learning you actually get to experience relief from all those unpleasant emotions as well as recurring similar circumstances or recurring physical pain. A lot of your unhealed experiences may reside in past lives you are completely unaware of.
Even though our natural tendency is to not want to re-visit painful areas of our lives, it really behooves us to re-visit for the purpose of healing. We never re-experience the full intensity of the original experience, anyway. Possibly only 10% or so. We will, however, continue to re-live the past over an over if we don’t heal it, as our soul will not allow us to ignore it. What we resist persists. Only when we heal, can we finally let go. Why keep holding onto the pain? By not wanting to face our pain we only keep creating more of it.
Are you an optimist, a pessimist or a realist?
Well it is said that if you see the glass as half full you are considered an optimist. If you see it as half empty you are a pessimist. And if you worry that if you stick around long enough you’ll end up having to wash the glass, you are a realist.
Interesting how we can look at the same thing and see something different. That’s called perspective. That’s why we can experience life differently by simply altering our perspective.
Whom Does Forgiveness Ultimately Benefit?
Forgiveness is an interesting subject. I use the energy of forgiveness in my healing practices all the time …because it heals. When we forgive we also let go of our feelings of anger, pain, resentment and hostility. It actually takes a lot of energy to hold on to and maintain negative emotions such as anger. Withholding forgiveness is like drinking venom attempting to poison our enemy. And yet, some of us can’t or won’t forgive. Why is the act of forgiveness so difficult?
Is it because we think that by forgiving we release the other person from their responsibility of their actions and thus they will not have to pay for what they did? Or is it because we so desperately try to feel powerful thinking that by withholding our forgiveness we can make the other suffer?
But, why do we want to take on the responsibility of making someone else pay? In our universe, every action has its price regardless. We all must pay our dues. We all have our lessons to learn. And ultimately we all stand before our own personal judge. Do we really have the power to make the other suffer? We may go through the motions and at best hope that our actions cause the other person pain. But what the other person actually chooses to feels is up to them. We don’t have control over someone else’s feelings. Just like no one can make us forgive when we don’t want to. It’s an internal job. We only have as much power over someone else as they allow us to have. By the same token, someone else has only as much power over us as we allow them.
So, how do we get feeling so powerless? Well, when we blame someone else, when we hold another person responsible for our circumstances, we automatically render ourselves powerless. By giving away our personal responsibility we also give away our power. On the other hand, when we recognize our part in the creation of our reality and we assume personal responsibility and truly own our creation, whether painful or wonderful, only then do we also own our power.
Why do we try so hard to affect change where we cannot affect it? Life only becomes hard when we set ourselves up with impossibilities by taking on someone else’s responsibility and giving away our own. Ultimately the only change we can affect is within ourselves.
But why is it our responsibility when someone else hurts us, you may ask? I know this may be difficult for some to accept, but every event, every person in our lives is there because we have drawn them there. Maybe it was karma balancing itself out from another lifetime. Maybe we wanted to learn something and had a soul contract with the other person to help teach us. Or maybe we are repeating history because our soul wants us to finally heal our past. Whatever the reason, we created our circumstances. Only when we accept what is truly ours, do we fully stand in our power. And it is then when forgiveness becomes easy because there is no need to hold a grudge against anyone else. In fact, it’s never been about anyone else. It’s always been about ourselves. And all there is left is the pain we need to heal and the wisdom it holds for us. …and forgiveness will help us do that.
